For each tone of used oil received, METALUB is granting a MetaCredit corresponding to an applicable carbon credit for carbon neutralization of the emissions generated in its operations, transport or any type of activity with environmental impact.
Accumulating MetaCredits can reduce your organizational or personal Carbon Footprint and contribute to the maintenance of the projects to reduce emissions that generate renewable energy from which these credits come, as well as the development of the communities where they reside.
The Kyoto protocol adopted in the 1997 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), establishes among its objectives to engage countries in the stabilization of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the implementation of clean development mechanisms that propose the financing of environmental projects in vulnerable areas of developing countries.
Environmental projects that can be classified as Clean Development Mechanisms focus on energy saving and efficiency, waste treatment, deforestation and the substitution of fossil fuels for renewable energy. The registration of these projects implies a rigorous process to verify that the reduction is real and that the benefits are measurable in the long term in relation to the mitigation of Climate Change.
The carbon credits from these CDM environmental projects are commercialized through Emission Reduction Certificates (CERs), which are equivalent to one ton of CO2 that is no longer emitted into the atmosphere, offsetting environmental pollution caused by emission of greenhouse gases. Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) are projects to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the capacity to issue carbon credits / bonds that are commercialized in the carbon market.
